Saint of the Month

Saint André Bessette is a Canadian saint who had a great devotion to St. Joseph and a special ministry to the sick. He would rub the sick person with oil from a lamp in the Notre Dame College chapel, and many were healed. Word of his power spread and when an epidemic broke out a nearby college, he volunteered to help. With great modesty, St. André would often say, “I don’t heal. It is Saint Joseph.” By his death, he was receiving 80,000 letters each year from the sick who sought his prayers and healing.

Symbols of Our Faith

The pulpit (sometimes referred to as the ambo) is the place reserved for the proclamation of scripture and for preaching. All non-scriptural speaking (such as welcoming remarks or announcements) take place at a lectern.

Prayer of the Month

Lord God, we give you thanks for the joys of winter: blankets of snow that cover with sparkling whiteness, conserve heat and provide water for future use; snowflakes that remind us of our unique gifts and our diversity; shortened daylight that reminds us of our need for Christ, the Light of the World; celebrations that call us to gather in faith and love and remind us of the importance of community. Help us to slow down and use this season as a time of humble reflection that we may grow in our awareness of your many blessings in our lives. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Share Goodness

January is often seen as a month of renewal and can be a wonderful opportunity to ground yourself in your intentions for the year ahead. Take this chance to take stock of your core values and explore how you could better the world in those areas. Will 2021 be the year you reduce your environmental footprint by cutting out single-use plastics? Will it be the year you focus on building up your community by volunteering at your local community centre or church? Will it be the year you foster an animal without a home?
